The goal of the Global Talent Independent Program is to foster the growth of Australia’s technology and innovation industry, which in turn creates more job opportunities for Australians over time. The government has a long-term vision of transferring skills, promoting innovation, and generating employment.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Global Talent visa Program, applicants must have exceptional skills in one of the ten specific target sectors:

  • Resources
  • Agri-food and AgTech
  • Energy
  • Health Industries
  • Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space
  • Circular Economy
  • DigiTech
  • Infrastructure and Tourism
  • Financial Services and FinTech
  • Education

To qualify for the Global Talent visa Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Show internationally recognized exceptional achievements in their field of expertise.
  • Demonstrate current expertise in their domain.
  • Prove that they would be a valuable addition to an Australian community.
  • Demonstrate their ability to secure suitable employment in their field in Australia.
  • Have a nominator who is either a recognized Australian organization in the same field or an Australian citizen or permanent resident with expertise in the same field.

To meet the income and/or qualifications criteria, applicants must fulfill at least one of the following requirements:

  • Have a job offer with an annual salary of at least $162,000.
  • Currently hold a job with an annual salary of at least $162,000.
  • Have recently completed a PhD in one of the target sectors as a high-performing student.

Requirements for Nominators

The applicants must be nominated by a reputable individual or organization in the same field. The nominator can be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organization. They should endorse the applicant based on their achievements and international recognition. The nomination should also explain how the applicant will contribute positively to the Australian community and establish themselves by finding employment and settling in Australia.

It’s important to note that the nominator does not need to be the employer of the applicant.

Here is a simplified step-by-step guide on how to apply for the Global Talent Program:

Step 1: Submit Expression of Interest (EOI)

  • Start by submitting an EOI through the Global Talent contact form
  • Make sure to gather all the required documents to demonstrate your eligibility as mentioned earlier.
  • Submit the expression of interest.

Step 2: Apply for the Visa

  • If your eligibility is confirmed, you will receive a unique identifier to proceed with the visa application.
  • As part of the Subclass 858 visa application, all applicants must meet the Health and Character requirements.
  • Once your application is assessed and all requirements are met, the Department will finalize the application.
  • If your Subclass 858 visa is granted, you will have the opportunity to live and work permanently in Australia.
