Direct Entry Stream
If you have not held a 457 visa previously but possess a minimum of 3 years of work experience in your nominated occupation and have an employer willing to sponsor you for that specific occupation, you can make an application under the Direct Entry Stream.
Standard Requirements
- Skill Assessment is mandatory for this stream.
- English language proficiency equivalent to an IELTS score of 6 in each module.
- Any secondary applicants over the age of 18 must demonstrate Functional English ability, which requires an overall IELTS score of 4.5 or an equivalent qualification obtained within the last 12 months.
Labour Agreement Stream
To be eligible for this visa, it is necessary for the employer to have a valid labour agreement in place. The labour agreement serves as a formal agreement between the employer and the Australian government, outlining specific terms and conditions for hiring foreign workers.
The Temporary Residence Transition Stream
This provides an opportunity for individuals who have held a 457, TSS or related bridging visa A, B or C visa to apply for permanent residency in Australia. To be eligible under this stream, applicants must have worked in Australia for the last two years (excluding unpaid leave) in the same occupation with the employer who is now willing to offer a permanent position in that occupation.

- English language proficiency equivalent to an IELTS score of 5 in each module, unless exempted.
- Any secondary applicants over the age of 18 must meet the Functional English ability requirement, which entails an overall IELTS score of 4.5 or an equivalent qualification obtained within the last 12 months, unless exempted.
